The Office of Chairman Bernard Peplinski, Sr., of the Herkimer County Legislature today announced that, "Herkimer County is currently being reviewed by Tractor Supply Company for the possible establishment of a major distribution facility on the Herkimer County IDA's Frankfort 5s South Business Park, aka the Pumpkin Patch."
The estimated $75 million to $80 million dollar project includes the construction of an approximately 930,500 square-foot distribution center on about 140 acres of property at the Pumpkin Patch. Tractor Supply Company anticipates the creation of 350 new full-time jobs over the next six years in conjunction with the distribution center. In addition to the initial construction, the Company will have the potential to expand this facility by roughly 300,000 square feet at a later date.
"The Frankfort 5s South Business Park was created over 20 years ago and has been a work in progress thanks to the help of Mr. Vincent J. Bono, Chairman of the Herkimer County IDA," stated Chairman Peplinski. "I would also like to thank Stephen R. Smith, Executive Director and the entire current and past IDA boards and staff, including former Executive Directors Mark Kaucher, Domiano Contino and Mark Feane for their hard work setting up the park, as well as the Village of Frankfort for getting municipal power to the site."
Peplinski continued, "Additionally, I extend my gratitude to the current and past Herkimer County Legislators and the taxpayers for their financial support to set up the park, and the staff for their hard work on assisting in creating the park. The Herkimer County Legislature's support and investment throughout the years through the IDA was the building block for this business park and the improvements to it. I also want to thank the Village and Town of Frankfort for their continued support and assistance."
Mr. Vincent J. Bono, Chairman of the IDA added, "I would like to thank Tractor Supply Company for reviewing Herkimer County and its workforce for their project. This site wouldn't have been ready if not for the work of NYS Senator James Seward over the last 20 years and most recently the assistance of NYS Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi. I want to thank all involved for their contribution in getting this site shovel ready."
Tractor Supply Company was founded in 1938 as a small mail order tractor parts business and has grown in to the country's largest rural lifestyle retailer, with over 1,600 stores in 49 states, 24,000 team members, and annual revenues of approximately $6.8 billion. Tractor Supply stores are located primarily in towns outlying major metropolitan markets and in rural communities, supplying basic maintenance products to home, land, pet and animal owners. The Company currently operates 76 stores and employs more than 1,000 people across New York State.
Pending final agreement and approvals, Tractor Supply Company expects to begin construction of the distribution center in the summer of 2017, with the facility being operational by the end of 2018. While there are certain conditions that remain to be satisfied before the project might become a reality, the Company looks forward to working with the Herkimer County IDA and New York State in seeking the necessary approvals to bring this project to Herkimer County and the Town of Frankfort.
