The Agency received a Fast NY Grant award in the amount of $500,000 to support predevelopment activities that will support the redevelopment of the former Remington Arms factory complex in Ilion, New York, into a multi-tenant office and light industrial park. Predevelopment efforts will include site planning, environmental assessments, engineering studies, architectural design, and market and feasibility analyses to guide redevelopment of an area that was once a major employer in the Mohawk Valley region. The project will address key issues such as environmental remediation, aging infrastructure, and site access, while leveraging major opportunities including the site’s central location, distinctive character, and potential to anchor regional economic revitalization. Expected outcomes and deliverables through this funding source include a comprehensive redevelopment plan, site design and reuse concepts, cost estimates, phasing strategy, and investment prospectus to attract developers and tenants. The predevelopment phase will position the site for future construction, job creation, and sustainable economic growth in Herkimer County. Although Turin Management did explore a data center and enter into the NYISO queue to explore a large amount of power, the have since pivoted from that plan to a vision that will add more value to the community. In summary, the Herkimer County IDA supports the redevelopment of the Remington Arms facility; however, we are not seeking or planning to pursue data center opportunities.
